Congregation Meeting — January 13, 2008

The Board has scheduled a very important congregation meeting on Sunday, January 13th, at noon (right after the church service). There are three agenda items:

  1. The Social Justice Committee will propose changes to our “share the plate” program. We’ll have a chance to discuss the results to date of our plate-sharing program and decide whether we want to stay with it. The committee will propose that we give two-thirds of our un-pledged plate collection — up to $1000 — each month to a charitable organization working to end homelessness. And that we commit to doing this through the year 2015.

  2. We will present a draft budget for 2008-2009 for congregation approval. This is earlier than normal, and the church committees have not yet provided input to this draft budget. That input will gathered in the spring. But the Board thinks it is important to have a congregation-approved budget for next fiscal year to include in the Search Committee’s congregation packet. With this budget in the packet, potential ministerial candidates will be able to see Northlake’s commitment to a full-time ministry and also see that we have a sound financial plan for incorporating the chapel into the life of the church.

  3. Janet Hall will present a proposed revision to our bylaws. As you know, an ad-hoc committee has been formed to review our bylaws and make needed changes. The committee is ready with the first recommended revision. The main change to be approved at this meeting is to incorporate a statement affirming our intent to be a Welcoming Congregation. In addition, a change to the conditions for membership will be reviewed.
