Music Committee
Northlake is blessed with a lively and varied music program. Northlake’s non-auditioned church choir is open to all. It currently numbers about 28 participants. The choir annually performs one major work as a complete Sunday service & several multi-piece programs incorporated into Sunday morning services. It provides choral music on average 2-3 times per month. Encouragement is also given to smaller groups of singers within the choir to provide Sunday morning music.
In support of the music program, the Music Committee:
- Supports the music director.
- Works with minister, worship committee and board of trustees as needed.
- Promotes participation in the choir, singing at services & special events.
- Participates in fund-raising as needed.
- Collaborates on music program policies.
- Publicizes special events.
- Keeps the music library
The Music Director reports to the Board of Trustees, works closely with the Music Committee, and is responsible for:
- Arranging for provision of music for Sunday morning services 10 months of the year.
- Arranging for guest performances or performances by members of the congregation.
- Arranging music for Christmas Eve service.
- Conducting the choir, which rehearses weekly 10 months of the year, and performs at Sunday services at least twice per month.
- Scheduling & attending extra rehearsals as necessary.
- Collaborating with the minister and worship committee.
- Promotes congregation participation in the choir, services & other events.
- Arranges for regular piano tuning.

The Music Committee meets about once a month, or as needed, to plan music for the church. We support our Music Director, Art Kuller, in the planning and selection of music for Sunday services including two major choir concerts each year, plus extra events such as musical comedies for Saturday night gatherings at Northlake. We occasionally invite guest musicians to Northlake, and sometimes arrange for our choir to give guest performances outside our church. We also maintain an extensive and growing music library. Requirements for committee membership include a love of music and a light heart, organizational skills and willingness to file sheet music once in a while.
