Northlake Membership Committee

  1. Work with professional leaders to increase membership; cosponsor activities and events with the Adult RE and RE Committees; work with Marketing Committee to get Northlake’s name and identity out to the larger community; educate potential new members about membership and UUism; and provide hospitality and greeters on Sunday mornings and track visitors.
    1. Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to increase Northlake’s membership,
    2. greet members, friends, and visitors every Sunday (or set up roster of greeters), including having visitors sign the guest book and make temporary name tags,
    3. provide timely communication to prospective new members to invite them into membership; coordinate with Minister to set dates for orientation classes,
    4. arrange for new name tags to be printed – give Administrator list of names, clearly printed, so Administrator can prepare new hanging name badges,
    5. once new people have signed the Book, give full name, address, phone number, and email address to the Administrator to be included in the database, directory, and receive newsletter and UU World,
    6. provide short biographies of new members for inclusion in the newsletter,
    7. work with the Administrator once a year to delete lapsed members and friends from the database,
    8. order from UUA or design “in-house” brochures about Northlake and the Unitarian movement, for the information rack in the lobby.

The Membership Committee is planning several events this spring, including a new member welcoming ceremony, an orientation luncheon for those interested in membership or Unitarian Universalism, and a volunteer appreciation luncheon.

We would love to have you participate in our committee! If you are interested in becoming more involved at Northlake, the membership committee is a great way to get to know people at Northlake and to get plugged into the life of the church. From Sunday morning greeting to welcoming new members to all–church events, this committee has a lot of ways to participate. Long–time member or newcomer, your I input is very valuable! In fact, newer folks tend to have a unique, fresh perspective and it would be extremely helpful to hear from you. We meet on the second Monday of the month, 7:00 PM. You can come check us out [we don’t bite] and see if this is a committee in which you’d like to participate. And of course we’re always open and eager for suggestions.

Friendship roster: you may have wondered what the purpose of that little folder is that is sent through the rows during the church service. The friendship roster does many things: it lets us know who wants to be on our newsletter mailing list, or who would like to hear from our religious education director or minister. It also lets us know who hasn’t been around for a while and who might just need a phone call. So we would greatly appreciate your taking the time to fill it out when it comes to you.

Volunteer opportunity! The membership committee is actively seeking a Volunteer Coordinator. The primary responsibility of this person would be to tabulate the results of the volunteer skills surveys that have been filled out by Northlakers and to then link people with specific skills and interests with appropriate committees or projects. If you are interested in finding out more information on any of the above, please contact Jenny Mason, Membership Chair, at 206-431-5781 or .

In faith,

Jenny Mason
